Joel S. Pretz:
Joel S. Pretz is Mediator and manages the Mediation Program for the Pittsburgh Area Office of the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. He received his Bachelor’s degree in sociology from Muhlenberg College, Allentown, PA. Joel, is a Viet Nam Era Veteran, having served in the U.S. Air Force. He has held several positions with the EEOC since 1976.
Joel participates in the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center’s Intermediation Program, and is certified in the U.S. District Court’s Mediation Program. He has participated in numerous types of mediation training, including transformative and advance facilitative.
Joel was instrumental in creating and implementing the Commission’s Mediation Program in the Pittsburgh Office in 1997. He recruits mediators and works closely with them in developing and providing the mediation services offered by the Pittsburgh Office. Joel also makes presentations on alternative dispute resolution and the EEOC’s Mediation Program to various professional groups and graduate schools throughout the year. As a trained, experienced mediator, Joel conducts about 100 mediation conferences a year.
