Join PHRA on October 18th as we launch our very fist half-day seminar related to ADA issues in honor of National Disability Employment Awareness Month!

This outstanding program is FREE to PHRA members and will offer 4 Continuing Education credits, and lunch is included!

In addition, all seminar attendees will receive a complimentary ticket to attend the 11th Annual Power of Work Awards reception ($50 value) hosted by Goodwill Industries of Pittsburgh. The awards recognize outstanding efforts by employers in support of workforce development for individuals with barriers to employment.

12:15 - 1:15 TOP TEN ACCOMMODATION REQUESTS FROM EMPLOYERS: From Light Duty to Flexible Scheduling and Everything in Between

Attendees will hear about the Top 10 Accommodation Requests of employers from around the country. Discussion will include the challenges that faced many of these employers and the solutions that some utilized.

The session presenter is from the Job Accommodation Network (JAN). JAN's mission is to facilitate the employment and retention of workers with disabilities by providing employers, employment providers, people with disabilities, their family members and other interested parties with information on job accommodations, self-employment and small business opportunities and related subjects. JAN represents the most comprehensive resource for job accommodations available.

1:30 - 2:30 ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY- IDEAS TO ACCOMMODATE AND INCREASE PERFORMANCE

In the workplace, Assistive Technology refers to any item or piece of equipment, low-tech or high-tech, that enables the performance of job tasks. Such Technology solutions can be creative and will not always be the same solution for all people.

Join this session to hear about a variety of solutions that can be used to accommodate and increase performance for employees with disabilities. This discussion will also include information about resources where employers can get ongoing assistance with the selection of appropriate Assistive Technology.

2:45 - 3:45 PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES AS CUSTOMERS- ARE YOU REACHING THEM?

Statistics show that the aggregate income of people with disabilities tops $1 trillion. This includes $220 billion in discretionary income.

In addition to the buying power of this group, companies should note that accessibility also attracts the families and friends of people with disabilities.

Some employers only wanted a qualified employee, but found that they gained even more!

Participate in this session to hear about the many reasons why local businesses have hired/retained employees with disabilities. This presentation will also include discussion about the challenges that employers may have encountered and the resources/solutions utilized to achieve success with their employees.
