PHRA Prepares for First Ever
SHRM Foundation Silent Auction
You are invited to participate in a very special event. Our Chapter will hold its first annual silent auction benefiting the SHRM Foundation during the PHRA 60th Annual Conference and Exposition. We need your help to make this event a success.
The SHRM Foundation is a not-for-profit organization that operates as the research and development arm of the HR profession. The Foundation advances the profession and enhances the knowledge and competency of HR professionals through its funding of research, publications, and educational programs. The work of the SHRM Foundation is supported by tax deductible contributions made by individuals, companies, and organizations.
Here’s how you can help:
1. Please consider contributing an item to the silent auction. You, your employer, or both can donate the item. Some items that have sold well in other Chapters’ auctions are gift baskets, wine, holiday items, children’s items, food items, gift certificates, electronic equipment, artwork, and books. Your donation is tax deductible. Complete the donation form and e-mail or fax it as soon as possible to
2. Mark you calendar now and plan to attend the auction on October 15th and 16th during the Conference that will be held at the Pittsburgh, PA David L. Lawrence Convention Center. You will receive more information, as the Conference date grows closer. We encourage you to bring a friend or colleague to the Auction along with your checkbook!
Thank you in advance for your support of this important event. A member of the Silent Auction Committee will be contacting those who submit a donation form by phone within the next two weeks to follow up.
Together we can make a difference!
Best regards,
Tina M. Lynch, SPHR, GCDF

HRCI* is getting ready to launch a NEW Searchable Online Directory on March 7. This directory will be a great benefit to those looking for pre-approved programs. Individuals will be able to search the directory by location (city, state or country), program dates, host organization, type of activity, or specific type of credit.
As an Approved Provider through HRCI, the Pittsburgh Human Resources Association is dedicated to providing the community with superior educational programs throughout the year. Our programs will continue to be listed on the monthly calendar at http://www.pittsburghhra.org/25.php. The HRCI Searchable Online Directory will be another tool for you to use to find additional programs offered in the area.
*The Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI) is the leading independent, internationally recognized certifying body for the HR profession. HRCI certifications require professionals to demonstrate their expertise in the core principles of HR practice and the application of those principles. HRCI's three core certifications meet the needs of nearly every HR professional.
On Wednesday, November 7, 2007, the USCIS released a revised Employment Eligibility Verification Form (I-9), which is now available for use. It is a federal requirement that US employers complete an I-9 form for all employees within the first three days of employment, and retain the form for one year after termination of employment or three years, whichever is longer. While employers may start using the form immediately, it will officially become effective when posted in the federal register at a later date.
