 Specifically, the membership categories and criteria are as follows:

    * Professional Members
    * Affiliate Members
    * Student Members
    * Honorary Members
      Lifetime Members

Professional Members are those persons who are actively engaged in the professional aspects of human resources provided they meet the following requirements:

   1. They are responsible for Human Resources, Labor Relations or related activities, and their positions are exempt under a Fair Labor Standards Act classification; or
   2. They are actively engaged in teaching in the area of Human Resources or Labor Relations, or are full-time consultants in the Human Resources or Labor Relations field.

Affiliate Members are persons who meet the following requirements:

   1. Their current employment status does not meet professional membership criteria, but their educational, employment or other background would merit special consideration by the Board; or
   2. Full-time Consultants who sell human resources-related services to those in the human resources field but whose services do not involve the professional aspects of human resources.

Student Members are persons who are full-time students attending a recognized college or university, are not employed on a full-time basis, and are:

   1. Enrolled in a prescribed program in the field of Human Resources, Labor Relations or a related field; or
   2. Members of a student chapter affiliated with a Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) Student Chapter.

In addition to these three categories, the PHRA confers Honorary Membership upon those individuals who have provided significant service to the Association and its programs and Lifetime Membership to Past Presidents of the Association upon the completion of their term of office.

Membership benefits build upon and expand the breadth and depth of experience and skills brought to the association by its members.  Some benefits are easily quantified and qualified, such as our educational programs.  Others, like the opportunities to serve in a leadership or mentoring capacity, are more intrinsic.  A quick look at some of the more “tangible” assets can be found in Member Benefits.
