PHRA Scholarship Fund

In 2012, PHRA President Steve Korbel envisioned a scholarship program that would subsidize the cost of the HRCI certification preparation course offered by the PHRA each spring and fall.  Additionally, the scholarship program will provide the successful applicant or applicants the opportunity to grow professionally to advance both the applicant’s career and the human resources profession.  Accordingly, the PHRA launched the PHRA Scholarship Fund in 2013 to support our membership’s pursuit of professional certification.  The details of the program are as follows:

Who is Eligible?
PHRA members may apply for this award. Each scholarship is a one-time award; however previous applicants are eligible to re-apply. Employees or board members of PHRA or members of their immediate family are not eligible to apply for awards or scholarships.

To be considered for this scholarship:
You must have a current PHRA membership. Student members are not eligible for this program. You must be preparing to sit for the PHR, SPHR, or GPHR certification. Members who have already taken one of those certification exams in the 2012 calendar year are also eligible to apply.

How to Apply?
The application includes contact information and a series of short answer questions about your volunteer experience and your career aspirations. You will also be asked to upload a current resume that includes your volunteer experience, and one letter of reference. Reference letters should be addressed to the “PHRA Scholarship Review Committee” and should provide insight into your character, career and volunteer accomplishments, work ethic, values and need for the scholarship.

Applications must be completed and submitted by Thursday, July 31, 2014.  All applicants will be notified of the scholarship results by Monday, August 18, 2014.  The Fall Certification Prep Class begins on Monday, August 25, 2014.
