To be eligible for the student rate, you must be a full-time student enrolled in an HR or Labor Relations program at a college or university AND/OR you are a SHRM student chapter member. Part-time graduate students working full-time are not eligible for the student rate.


Goals and Objectives:

Engaging employees is consistently shown to improve organizational results but sometimes it seems hard to know where to start or how to engage others in the mission to improve. Come learn one approach and get ideas for your own engagement journey. 


In this session discuss:

  • A simple definition of engagement that everyone can remember.

  • The two drivers that can help shape your plan.

  • Three roles to consider in developing your plan and how to identify which one to start with. 



About the Presenter: Karen Bolden is the President of Karen Bolden and Company, a consulting practice that works with organizations to create workforce strategies and people practices that create better culture, engagement and results. She believes that work is good and should have meaning, that HR should make sense and that people practices are everyone’s responsibility. 


Before opening her own practice, Karen was the Sr. Vice President and Chief People Officer for Eat’n Park Hospitality Group. In that role she oversaw… you guessed it - all things people – including workforce strategy, talent development, succession planning and total compensation. As CPO, Karen described her job as strategically connecting people company-wide to enhance the culture and to create an engaging team member experience.  


Karen enjoys golf, reading, history, dogs, yoga, and spending time with friends and family. She serves on the board of Literacy Pittsburgh and Presbyterian SeniorCare
