How can I retrieve receipts for my purchases or pay open invoices?

  • Login to your PHRA Membership account
  • Select the “Manage Profile” link on the right side of the screen
  • Select “Invoices” under the Invoicing, Payments & History section
  • In the Filter by status drop down choose “Any Status
  • You will then see listed all of your open and closed invoices
  • To pay an open invoice, click on the icon next to the open invoice you wish to pay that looks like a little green clock over a credit card

What is the auto-renewal feature?

The auto-renewal feature allows for automatic membership dues payments for our members. Anyone who processes their membership dues with a credit card is automatically enrolled. Our system charges the member's card on their expiration date to renew them for the upcoming year and a receipt showing the amount is emailed.

How can I opt-out of being auto-billed future membership dues?

The option to opt-in or opt-out of the auto-renewal feature is unavailable at this time. Follow the steps outlined below to disable the auto-renewal feature after processing a credit card payment:

  • Login to your PHRA Membership account
  • Select the “Manage Profile” link on the right side of the screen
  • Select “Membership” under the Invoicing, Payments & History section

All membership dues related invoices will appear. Simply click the red "X" to the left of the Open (Awaiting Autobill Invoice) to delete it. This action cannot be undone.

Members can also call PHRA Member Services at 412-261-5537 for assistance.

How can I be invoiced for my membership dues?

The best way to renew is through your membership account online at Once you reach the payment/billing section, you can choose to pay right there with credit card. If an invoice is required, call PHRA Member Services at 412-261-5537 and we will generate one for you!

HR Certifications

Which HR certification should I pursue?

There are currently two sets of certifications for HR professionals; HRCI Certifications and SHRM Certifications. At this time, the PHRA supports both exams and all of our Learning & Professional Development programs are approved to offer recertification credits for certifications from both certifying bodies. The decision on which credentials you pursue is entirely up to you, so here is some information to help you with your decision:

HRCI Certifications (PHR, SPHR, GPHR): Learn More

SHRM Certification (SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP): Learn More

How do I find out if I am eligible to sit for an exam?

You will need to check directly with the certifying body (HRCI or SHRM) to determine this; the PHRA is not able to determine your eligibility for the exams.

SHRM Eligibility Information: Learn More

How much does a certain exam cost/when can I register/when can I take the test?

Check with the certifying body (HRCI or SHRM) for these inquiries.

SHRM Test Information: Learn More

How can the PHRA help me prepare for the certification exams?

PHRA typically offers one 12-week SHRM Certification prep course (begins last Monday in January and August every year) and one 3-day intensive prep course each Fall and Spring. Check our events calendar and member e-mail communications for the latest information on our offerings.

The registration cost for our prep classes includes the study materials and the course. It does not include the cost to sit for the exam.

Help using some of your PHRA Member Benefits

I enjoy being a PHRA Member! How can I refer someone to become a member?

Great question! Referrals can be tracked by using the online referral system. When a member signs in, they can navigate to the Manage Profile page. Within the Community section there is a "Referrals" link. From here they can see members that they have referred. They can also select the "Refer a Friend" link and enter in email addresses of friends and colleagues, along with a personal message. The system will then send an email to those contacts with a registration URL that will tie back to the member who referred them.

When someone registers on the site by using the referral URL received within the email, it will count as a referral for the member that sent the email.

If a member has any referrals, they can return to the "Referrals" page within the Manage Profile section to see them. Anyone they've directly referred will show in the "My Referrals" column. If someone they referred also referred someone, they would show up on the "My Referrals' Referrals" column, and so on. Our system will only track up to 3rd degree referrals.

What are the benefits of becoming a PHRA Member?

There are many! Check out a list here or peruse our Member Benefits Flyer as a start.

How do Member Rewards work?

Members of the PHRA simply click the Member Rewards link within their profile and pay a fee of $19.95 via credit card for one year of access. They will then have access to the rewards platform by logging into your website and clicking on Member Rewards from their profile menu. The member must be able to log into your member community to access the rewards website.

Once the Member is on the Member Rewards homepage, they will be able to use the search bar to locate discounts pertaining to specific companies. Each discount has different methods of taking advantage. There is typically a set of instructions on how to access the discount. Sometimes it's a promo code, other times it will redirect you to another website to gain access to the deal.

Troubleshooting for Member Rewards:

If you need further assistance learning how to navigate the website, please contact the Member Rewards Support (it is a company called Abenity),  by navigating here: after logging into you PHRA Membership account.

Alternatively, you can find the Support button by clicking on the red "Perks & Discounts" button then click on "Support" to submit a request to their team.

I'm looking for a particular service, advice or information on a topic, who can I contact?

I can't access the Member Directory, what do I do?

  • Keep in mind that our Member Directory is not a list of members, rather it is a searchable member directory. For example, you will need the member's name or company that you would like to contact to search for them directly. We do this to protect the privacy of our members.
  • You must be signed in to your online PHRA membership account to use the Member Directory.

I just joined the PHRA and my name doesn't appear when I search for myself in the Member Directory.

Unless you opted out of the Member Directory when creating your membership profile, don't worry - you'll be there! Our system may take a few days to update but once it does you will be included in our directory.

I'm having trouble using the Career Center, what do I do?

Our Career Center is managed by a third party, so we do not have access to the back-end of that portion of our site. Please contact them directly at 1-866-376-0949 ext 6076 or for assistance with the Career Center.

Getting Involved with the PHRA

How does the Buddy Program work?

A group of a number of PHRA volunteers, comprised mostly of the PHRA Board of Directors, have offered to serve as mentors for the Buddy Program. To participate, email the requested information on the Buddy Program webpage to our staff, who will then review it and pass it along to the appropriate Buddy Program volunteer. The volunteer will then reach out and welcome their new buddy within forty-eight business day hours. Once a mentor is matched with a buddy, it then becomes the pair’s responsibility to determine how the Buddy Program relationship will develop. Successful past examples include monthly phone calls, email communications, and meeting at various PHRA events and programs.

Visit our Buddy Program page to learn more!

Volunteering for a PHRA Committee: What’s in it for me?

  • Networking with like-minded local HR professionals (you’re meeting with 5-20 HR professionals every month!)
  • Leadership experience
  • Having a hand in what the PHRA has to offer our members
  • Supporting and leveraging opportunities for Pittsburgh HR professionals, including yourself
  • Being at the forefront of innovation within the Pittsburgh (and beyond) HR field

What is the time commitment requirement to participate on a PHRA Committee?

Committees typically meet during business hours via telephone conference call once a month for an hour, with the occasional in-person meeting. Most committees host anywhere from 1-4 events throughout the year, and committee members are expected to assist in planning and encouraged to attend their committee’s events.
