Receipts for registrations as well as membership dues can also be accessed through your PHRA profile, Step-by-step instructions can be found under the How do I retrieve receipts for purchases or pay open invoices tab above.

The auto-renewal feature allows for automatic annual membership dues payments for members. Members are automatically enrolled if they process their membership dues via credit card. The credit card information is encrypted and our system charges the member's card on their expiration date to renew them for the upcoming year. A receipt showing the amount and detailing the charge is emailed to the email address on the profile.

If the credit card on file expires after being charged or becomes invalid, membership dues will not process for the following membership term and they will not be renewed. Members should expect an automated email detailing the failed transaction.

The option to opt-in or opt-out of the auto-renewal feature is unavailable at this time. Follow the steps outlined below to disable the auto-renewal feature after processing a credit card payment:
  • Login to your PHRA Membership account
  • Select the “Manage Profile” link on the right side of the screen
  • Select “Membership” under the Invoicing, Payments & History section

All membership dues related invoices will appear. Simply click the red "X" to the left of the Open (Awaiting Autobill Invoice) to delete it. This action cannot be undone.

Once the steps are complete, members should expect to renew manually for the following membership term.

Members can also call PHRA Member Services at 412-261-5537 for assistance.

The best way to renew is through your membership account online at www.PittsburghHRA.org. Once you reach the payment/billing section, you can choose to pay right there with credit card. If an invoice is required, call PHRA Member Services at 412-261-5537 and we will generate one for you!

There are currently two sets of certifications that an HR Professional can choose to obtain; SHRM Certifications and HRCI Certifications.

At this time, the PHRA is an Approved Education Partner for SHRM Exam Preparation and all of our Learning & Professional Development programs are approved to offer recertification credits for certifications from both certifying bodies.

Determining which certification works best is entirely up to the individual. The PHRA would encourage HR Professionals unsure of which certification to test for to review the information in the links below:
SHRM Certification (SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP): Learn More
HRCI Certifications (PHR, SPHR, GPHR, aPHR, aPHRi, PHRi, SPHRi): Learn More

To find out eligibility requirements for an exam, check directly with the certifying body (SHRM or HRCI) to determine this; the PHRA is not able to determine your eligibility for the exams.
SHRM Eligibility Information: Learn More or contact SHRM Member Care at 800-283-7476
HRCI Eligibility Information: Learn More or contact an HRCI representative at 866-898-4724 or at info@hrci.org

Check with the certifying body (SHRM or HRCI) for these inquiries.

PHRA typically offers two 12-week SHRM Certification prep courses (begins February and August every year) and one 3-day intensive prep course each Fall. Check our events calendar and member e-mail communications for the latest information on our offerings.

The registration cost for our prep classes includes the study materials and the course. It does not include the cost to sit for the exam.

Great question! Referrals can be tracked by using the online referral system. When a member signs in, they can navigate to the Manage Profile page. Within the Community section there is a "Referrals" link. From here, they can see members that they have referred. They can also select the "Refer a Friend" link and enter in email addresses of friends and colleagues, along with a personal message. The system will then send an email to those contacts with a registration URL that will tie back to the member who referred them.

When someone registers on the site by using the referral URL received within the email, it will count as a referral for the member that sent the email.

If a member has any referrals, they can return to the "Referrals" page within the Manage Profile section to see them. Anyone they've directly referred will show in the "My Referrals" column. If someone they referred also referred someone, they would show up on the "My Referrals' Referrals" column, and so on. Our system will only track up to 3rd degree referrals.

There are many! Check out a list here.

Check out our HR Resources page here or contact any one of our knowledgeable and experienced members using our
People Link Directory. You must be signed in to your PHRA profile to access these resources.

  • Keep in mind that our Member Directory is not a list of members, rather it is a searchable member directory. For example, you will need the member's name or company that you would like to contact to search for them directly. We do this to protect the privacy of our members.
  • You must be signed in to your online PHRA membership account to use the Member Directory.

Unless you opted out of the Member Directory when creating your membership profile, don't worry - you'll be there! Our system may take a few days to update but once it does you will be included in our directory.

Our Career Center is managed by a third party rather than by PHRA Staff. Unfortunately, we do not have access to the back-end of that portion of our website.

Job Seekers and Employers- Please contact the Career Center Support Line at 860-437-5700 (Monday through Friday 7:30am - 7pm EST) for assistance

The Buddy Program was developed as a way of formalizing the relationship between new members and veteran members. The program offers a structured setting in which to develop beneficial one-on-one relationships between members.

A number of PHRA volunteers, comprised mostly of the PHRA Board of Directors, have offered to serve as mentors for the Buddy Program. To participate, email the requested information on the Buddy Program webpage to our staff, who will then review it and pass it along to the appropriate Buddy Program volunteer.

The volunteer will then reach out and welcome their new buddy within forty-eight business day hours. Once a mentor is matched with a buddy, it then becomes the pair’s responsibility to determine how the Buddy Program relationship will develop. Successful past examples include monthly phone calls, email communications, and meeting at various PHRA events and programs.
